First Book of the Year 2015 with Sheila @bookjourney & New Year’s Resolutions

First Book of the Year badgeHappy New Year!

Sheila at Book Journey has compiled a collage of photos and a collection of links from book bloggers reading their first books of 2015. Check it out if you need some ideas on what to read to start off the new year right!

photo of me reading The LuminariesI received a copy of The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton, so that’s my official first book of the new year, but I’m only halfway through Revival by Stephen King (somewhat disappointing so far) and also have a library copy of A Man Called Ove which I’ve been seeing on Best Books and Favorites of 2014 lists. I also have The Wrong Girl by Hank Phillippi Ryan to read for our Mystery Book Club at the library, and my own copy of Me Before You, another one I had hoped to read in 2014. Etc. etc.

Eh? What’s that? Resolutions?

I failed miserably at my TBR Pile Challenge with Roof Beam Reader again this year, and while I’m enjoying reading everyone else’s resolutions, I don’t think I’ll sign on for challenges or make any reading resolutions this year. Just keeping my head above water with work, reviews, and blogging will be challenging enough!

I hope you love The Luminaries. I started out reading a print copy of A Man Called Ove and ended up listening to the audiobook (had to multitask at the time). It’s on my 2014 Favorites list.
Happy New Year!

Yeah, my reading was not as good as I expected in 2014. I’m hoping to change that in 2015. Enjoy your first book of the year!

I’ve had so little time to read that I’m still in the middle of a book from last year – The Girl on the Train. I’m loving it so far.

Elizabeth (Silver's Reviews)

ENJOY The Luminaries and all your books. I hear A Man Called Ove is VERY good.

Happy New Year!!

Very nice blog…I don’t think I have visited before. Nice to find new bloggers.

Going to subscribe by e-mail.

Happy New Year.

A fine list of books that you have got there. I have to admit shamefacedly that I bought The Luminaries but just couldn’t keep it all in my head!

This looks like it has rich, interesting history in it. Hau’oli Makahiki Hou to you.

Sounds like an interesting read! Your other books sound interesting too. I really want to read Stephen King this year. Somehow I’ve never read any of his books. Have a Happy New Year!

I’m not familiar with your book – will have to check it out. I loved HPR’s The Wrong Girl – I’ve actually read all 3 books in that series and can’t wait for the next book to come out. I almost picked Me Before You as my 1st book, but wanted a lighter book, so I went with Sarah Jio’s The Violets of March. It’s very good! I didn’t do that great with reading my own books last year, either, so I’m hoping to do more of that this year! But, there’s always so many good books coming out each day it seems!!! Such a conundrum!!!

Happy New Year Laurie!!!

I really enjoyed Revival. It isn’t horror in the classical sense but had it’s creepy moments. The Luminaries sounds interesting I tagged it for future read. Happy New Year

I joined the TBR Pile Challenge a few years ago and didn’t even finish one book! Now that’s an epic fail. And one of the reasons I don’t join challenges anymore. 🙂

Enjoy your book and Happy New Year.

I am so intimidated by The Luminaries! I don’t know where I got it in my head that it was an Extremely Difficult Book, but it is, and now I’m not sure I can just pick it up. Good luck on your first books of the year!
