It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? 1-17-22

Currently Reading

The Archive of the Forgotten (Penguin, 2020) A. J. Hackwith

Reading The Archive of the Forgotten by A. J. Hackwith on my breaks at work. It’s #2 in the Hell’s Library trilogy. The third book is out in hardcover now.

Crossroads (Farrar, Strauss, Giroux, 2021) by Jonathan Franzen

Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen was my First Book of 2022, and I wrote about it last week. I’m still reading it! Mostly in the morning, but occasionally I sneak in afternoon reading time with it on days off.

Crossroads is almost 600 pages long, and I kind of don’t want to finish it. Please leave any suggestions for my next chunkster in the comments. (Extra points for multigenerational family sagas!)

But You Seemed So Happy: A Marriage, in Pieces and Bits by Kimberly Harrington

I’m also still reading But You Seemed So Happy, a memoir in essays about marriage and divorce by Kimberly Harrington.

Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci

I saw Taste – a foodie memoir by Stanley Tucci who wrote and acted in the film Big Night – recommended on so many blogs, I had to get it. Started listening to it in the car with my husband yesterday, but may not be able to wait for him to finish it with me because my library loan on it is already running out!

I love Stanley Tucci, so I am curious about this one.

I enjoyed parts of Crossroads, but this hefty chunkster was not a favorite.

Here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

I’m enjoying Taste, reading it every day at lunchtime. I also have it on audio for a future reread. I need to re-watch Big Night!

Haven’t read any of these, I hope they are all enjoyable. Not sure I want to read a series with hell connected with library, lol!

The Archive of the Forgotten sure has a creepy cover. I just looked at the synopsis. I find it funny that one of my reading challenges this year calls for reading an unfinished classic. I guess I know where that book is residing!

Multigenerational family chunksters? Hmmm… Lesley’s Book Nook (Coastal Horizons) posted about Rosamunde Pilcher recently so I can only think of The Shell Seekers at the moment. You’ve probably read that oldie but goodie. I just took a look at my GR shelves because I was curious. All my suggestions are older books! The Far Pavilions by M. M. Kaye, Hawaii by James Michener, The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, The Princes of Ireland by Edward Rutherfurd, The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough, lots of Maeve Binchy…

Oh, here’s a more recent one: Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.

Enjoy your week!

I’m going to chime in and say that I read the first in the Pillars of the Earth series, but listened to the second book and gave it a 5-star rating. I don’t think I ever got around to reading/listening to the third, so I’m tempted to listen to all three… one of these days. Here’s a link to my review of the second book. Click here
