Count the Ways (William Morrow. July 13, 2021) by Joyce Maynard

Count the Ways by Joyce Maynard is a family novel that spans several decades – following the main character Eleanor from her college years and early marriage through till her children are adults and getting married themselves. It’s a poignant novel, so heavy with sadness and regret that it might have been depressing. But, instead, the characters seemed so real I felt as though – given the individuals involved and their circumstances – Eleanor and her family, her friends and lovers, are all just managing to do the best they can with the lives they have. The perspective the author write from is Eleanor’s, and it feels as though Eleanor is telling the story of her life as truthfully as she can.

They are forty-something, successful, financially set . . . and done with trying to find “perfect” husbands. So why can’t Hahna, Twila, and Kimberly have men strictly for friendship, companionship—and especially mind-blowing sex? Their solution: be sugar mamas to gorgeous young studs who promise the best of having it all.

The Constant Rabbit by Jasper Fforde

The Constant Rabbit (Penguin, 2020) by Jasper Fforde

“As he did in Early Riser (2019), Fforde presents a milquetoast cog in an absurdly bureaucratic wheel, this time cleverly skewering Brexit, conservative politics, and white supremacy in this surprisingly uplifting tale of one man doing his best, even if it is the bare minimum.” Booklist

This library e-book copy expired on me so I had to put another hold on it!

Intense! A fraught mother-daughter relationship – steer clear if you prefer likable characters. Audio narration by Vineeta Rishi is excellent.

Just started The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey, which is read by one of my favorite audiobook narrators, Xe Sands. Might make you wonder what characteristics your spouse would include or leave out if creating a more desirable cloned version of you!
