It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? 08-08-22

Currently Reading

The Furrows by Namwali Serpell

The Furrows (Random House, Sept. 27, 2022) by Namwali Serpell is an ARC from NetGalley. Here’s the blurb that worked on me:

ABOUT THE FURROWS

“A genuine tour de force . . . What seems at first a meditation on family trauma unfolds through the urgency of an amnesiac puzzle-thriller, then a violently compelling love story.”—Jonathan Lethem, author of Motherless Brooklyn
ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED BOOKS OF 2022—Vulture, Lit Hub, Electric Lit, BookPage

These Precious Days by Ann Patchett

These Precious Days: Essays (Bloomsbury, 2021) by Ann Patchett is my book club book this month. I’ve read many of the essays in this collection already, but they are all worth reading again!

The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

At just over 1000 pages, The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett is on my Big Book Summer challenge list, so this one will be appearing on my currently-reading list for a while!

Currently Listening To

Amongst Our Weapons by Ben Aaronovitch

Penguin Audio, 2022

Recently Listened To

The Accomplice by Lisa Lutz

The Accomplice (Random House, 2022) by Lisa Lutz, read by Lisa Flanagan

“[An] atmospheric, well-plotted, and brilliantly narrated story, which is at once mysterious, suspenseful, and witty.”Booklist (starred review)

This Was a Man by Jeffrey Archer

This Was a Man (Macmillan, 2016) byJeffrey Archer, read by Alex Jennings

This Was a Man is the final (7th) book in The Clifton Chronicles, completed for the Big Book Summer Challenge. Woo hoo! If you like family soap operas sagas, you will like these books. Each ends on a cliffhanger, like the old-fashioned serialized novels, but they’ve all been published now so you won’t have to wait to find out what happens.

Please let me know what you’re reading in the comments!

I can see why the blurb of The Furrows appealed, I hope it lives up to its description

Wishing you a great reading week

Nice assortment of books. I don’t think the blurb for The Furrows would have convinced me to give it a try. I hope you enjoy it though. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

Nice variety. I haven’t listened to an audio for awhile. Usually when I’m driving but we are in a life transition so not so much in the car right now alone. lol

I would like to read the Clifton Chronicles at some point. He writes a good story. The Furrows sounds interesting.

I loved Ann Patchett’s essay collection on audio… she’s a favorite. I’m doing a read/listen combination of Memphis by Tara M. Stringfellow this week.

Oooh, The Furrows sounds very intriguing! I think I might have These Precious Days on audio (I hope so!). And I hope you’re enjoying Pillars of the Earth – my own very first-ever Big Book Summer read!
