Cloud Cuckoo Land (Scribner, Sept. 2021) by Anthony Doerr
The Sundial (Farrar, 1958) by Shirley Jackson
I’m reading The Sundial by Shirley Jackson in the original hardcover edition from the library. I started it too late to join in the “Read in Peril” group conversation, but I’m hooked now, so I need to finish it.

The Book of Accidents (Del Rey, 2021) by Chuck Wendig
The Final Girl Support Group (Penguin Audio, 2021) by Grady Hendrix

Timing downloadable audiobook loans from the library can be problematic, and mine have gotten jumbled this past week, with expirations and then becoming available again sooner than I think they will, so I’ve currently got three audiobooks going for this week. Luckily, they are all different enough from each other that I won’t get them mixed up.
The Other Black Girl (Simon & Schuster, 2021) by Zakiya Dalila Harris
The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris is making me tense, as something bad’s about to happen, has already happened, or is in the process of happening, for the main characters (on a dual timeline), but there is no way I’m going to stop listening now, so I’m breaking my own rule about avoiding psychological suspense.
The Last Graduate (Random House Audio, 2021) by Naomi Novik
Number9Dream (Recorded Books, 2013) by David Mitchell

Nice variety of books. I couldn’t listen to three at once though. It’s all I can do to have one print and one audiobook in process at the same time. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
I read Final Girl Support Group last month also. It was like most of Hendrix books..different
I seem to have too many library audiobooks now, too. I try to get just one at a time, but somehow have three. At this point I’m trying to convince myself that I’m just sampling a couple for another time… I’ll never get to all three. Good luck getting through your!
I am finally happy with our library now we have Libby and I love I can get audiobooks there so I have cut my Audible credits back to one a month which is great.
Final Girl looks good and I’ve been hearing good things- I need to get that one methinks!
I have a copy of Cloud Cuckoo Land here, and I started it, but I just couldn’t get my head around the characters and the plot. I think I need to read a few positive reviews so I don’t feel like it’s going to be a huge waste of my time. The plot seems so random.
I didn’t know anything about it going in, so I know what you mean about its being hard to get your bearings at first, but I’m finding each of the storylines/timelines equally compelling now!
I liked the audio of The Other Black Girl which I listened to this summer. Albeit some parts I liked better than others. It’s a different kind of novel … especially towards the end when it turns. Here are some of my thoughts after you finish it at https://www.thecuecard.com/books/summer-heights/ . I definitely want to read The Sundial … just heard of that Shirley Jackson book!
I liked the audio of The Other Black Girl when I listened to it this summer. It’s quite a rebuke of the publishing world … and it takes a different kind of turn towards the end. Here are my thoughts on it after you finish: https://www.thecuecard.com/books/summer-heights/ … I’m curious about Jackson’s The Sundial … I just heard of it this year … I’ve read two of her other classics and really liked them … very unsettling. But I know nothing yet of The Sundial … Enjoy.
Not sure my comments are going through?
They went into spam until I saw them! Sorry about that!
Unsettling is a very good word for The Sundial! I just finished reading it this morning, although it’s not a long book. I will definitely check out your thoughts on The Other Black Girl! It’s one that I want to hear other people’s takes on, and kind of wish I had read it with a book club.
