More baby time this past week! A visit from the kids with the baby during the week and then I flew back to Maryland with them for Easter weekend. I babysat the little one (7-1/2 weeks old) so the new parents could go to church together on Sunday morning.
About 15 minutes after the mass would have started (so only 25 minutes into babysitting session) I sent a desperate “better come home quick, baby is inconsolable” text. Followed less than a minute later with “never mind, she’s asleep.” Baby proceeded to sleep for almost two hours. How’s that for easy babysitting?!? Of course, I was afraid to move from the couch for fear of waking her up, nor could I risk putting her down in her crib. So thank goodness for audiobooks! š

Whose truth is the lie?Ā Stay up all night readingĀ the sensational psychological thriller that has readers obsessed, from the #1Ā New York TimesĀ bestselling author ofĀ It Ends With Us.
This is absolutely going to be my last Colleen Hoover. š It took so long for the library download to come through, I started reading it when it was finally my turn, but I’m spending more time trying to listen to an overly long audiobook, Fairy Tale by Stephen King, before that library loan expires. (There’s really not a chance I’ll get through it. As I’m listening, I keep thinking how much extraneous conversation could be cut, but maybe it will all be shown to be important by the end.)
Come to This Court & Cry by Linda Kinstler
“In her gripping debut, Kinstler traces how the crimes of World War II have been prosecuted and justice attempted over generations ā how memories have been formed and used, usurped and omitted.” ā The Washington Post
Come to This Court & Cry: How the Holocaust Ends (Public Affairs, 2022) by Linda Kinstler is an extremely well-researched work of journalism that grew out of the author’s investigation into family history ā specifically her Latvian grandfather, whose position during the Nazi occupation was unclear.
An Elegant Defense by Matt Richtel
The Pulitzer Prizeāwinning New York Times journalist “explicates for the lay reader the intricate biology of our immune system” ā Jerome Groopman, MD, New York Review of Books

Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant
Reminiscent of the works of Patricia Highsmith and Lucy Foley, a compulsive psychological thrillerāāthe perfect poolside readingā (Guardian)āinvolving gorgeous grifters on the loose in the south of France who prey on a group of unsuspecting vacationers . . . and each other.
Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant is coming out in August from Harper Audio. Great narration by Sofia Zervudachi, this will definitely be a LibraryReads recommendation for August and will show up on a lot of summer beach reads list. It’s not just another first-person psychological suspense novel!

Happy Easter! That’s funny about the babysitting. From inconsolable to asleep in a minute- that sounds like baby behavior! Ha you never know what they’re going to do next. š
I have started to listen to audiobooks again recently. I’ve been choosing the shorter ones from my Audible Library though. I’m glad you are enjoying your time with the new baby. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
Oh so glad your granddaughter settled and they didn’t have to come home from Easter Mass. What a special time to have with her. She’ll be visiting you in no time!! Hope that audiobook speeds through, the difficulty with library audio is getting through them in time.
Awww, what a cutie-pie! But yes, they are tricky (and exhausting!) at that age. You were down our way š Glad you got to visit and had a nice Easter. I have still not read a Colleen Hoover novel! I need to try one – Verity is the one my town reading group (on FB) kept raving about last year. I enjoyed An Elegant Defense and learned a lot. Sorry that Fairy Tale isn’t working for you – Stephen King is usually unputdownable! And Sun Damage sounds amazing!!
Enjoy your books this week!

Book By Book
Your series of texts while babysitting are really funny because it totally sums up infants. I could not get into Verity. At all. It turned me off her other books.
Verity is turning me off, too. Fans of her books at work tell me how different her books are from each other, but I think Iāve got the idea now, and have had enough!
What a lovely photo!
I’m seeing Colleen Hoover all over TikTok but the comments away from that are generally that it’s strictly okay, so it’s interesting to see yours here. Not sure whether or not I’ll read one of her books yet.
Oh my goodness, how cute is your granddaughter?!? It’s so funny that she went from inconsolable to asleep so quickly.
I can’t imagine listening to a Stephen King book. I don’t think I’ve ever done it but I could be wrong. I do love his books but he can go on and on a bit too long sometimes. At least you can skim a print book.
Friends who’ve never posted about or mentioned books (to my knowledge) have been raving about Colleen Hoover on my FB feed recently. She’s everywhere! I’m honest enough to admit that I’m a contrarian sometimes so that’s completely turned me off her books, at least for now.
Enjoy your week!
I’m reading An unquiet mind by Dr Kay Redfield Jamison, Crookhaven by JJ Arcanjo, Wild Hares and hummingbirds by stephen Moss, and Brett Whiteley by Ashleigh Wilson.
