Fitting in time for blogging is getting harder and harder. As for housekeeping? What’s that?
I’ve started two nonfiction books – which is unusual for me – thinking they might be easier to pick up and put down than novels (not meant as an insult to nonfiction writers!) With two back to back weekend trips to visit our new grandchild sandwiching a visit from them to visit family up here, I polished off an Elin Hilderbrand and a collection of crime fiction short stories, but not much more than that.
Come to This Court & Cry by Linda Kinstler
“In her gripping debut, Kinstler traces how the crimes of World War II have been prosecuted and justice attempted over generations — how memories have been formed and used, usurped and omitted.” – The Washington Post
Come to This Court & Cry: How the Holocaust Ends (Public Affairs, 2022) by Linda Kinstler is an extremely well-researched work of journalism that grew out of the author’s investigation into family history – specifically her Latvian grandfather, whose position during the Nazi occupation was unclear.
An Elegant Defense by Matt Richtel
The Pulitzer Prize–winning New York Times journalist “explicates for the lay reader the intricate biology of our immune system” – Jerome Groopman, MD, New York Review of Books

Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant
Reminiscent of the works of Patricia Highsmith and Lucy Foley, a compulsive psychological thriller—“the perfect poolside reading” (Guardian)—involving gorgeous grifters on the loose in the south of France who prey on a group of unsuspecting vacationers . . . and each other.
Trying to keep up with my NetGalley advance copies, I’m listening to Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant, coming out in August from Harper Audio. Great narration by Sofia Zervudachi!

Interesting assortment of books. I know what you mean about being able to pick up a nonfiction book when you have a bit of time. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
Elin Hildrebrand is always a good choice when I’m too busy or stressed to read… it’s easy to fall into her books and they read quickly. Can’t say the same for most nonfiction. Congratulations on your new grandchild!
Well that sounds like a great week and the reading was good too really even if not as much as you might usually do.
It looks like you’ve got some good books going this week. Have a wonderful time reading!
That book about the immune system sounds fascinating!
Non-fiction works as easier than fiction if you’re a bit burned out on the fiction, especially if it isn’t too dry. I love that cover for the Elin Hilderbrand, very appealing!
I read mostly non-fiction (and Junior) books. Am currently reading Wild Hares and Hummingbirds – about natural life in an English village.
