It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Recently Finished

I wrote about the If It Bleeds, the new novella collection by Stephen King last week. The audiobook is narrated by Will Patton, Danny Burstein, and Steven Weber. I was happy to discover that the title story, If It Bleeds, is one of the longer of the four novellas, and stars Holly Gibney, a character from the Mr. Mercedes books and The Outsider. Pick this one up to find out what evildoers she, Jerome, his little sister Barbara, and the Finders Keepers private investigation business go bravely up against and how the trio’s friendship has grown. It’s also a suspenseful horror story in its own right, as are the three other stories in the collection.

Currently Listening

The Body Lies (PRH Audio, 2019) by Jo Baker

The Body Lies by Jo Baker is narrated by Imogen Church (whose voice I recognize from her reading of Ruth Ware’s psychological suspense novels), Deborah McBride, Sam Woolf, and Simon Ludders.

I don’t know if anybody else occasionally mixes up authors Jo Baker and Jo Walton, but just in case – Jo Baker is the author of Longbourn, and Jo Walton is the author of Among Others – both of which I really liked!

Currently Reading

I’m still reading Two Thousand Years, a romantic fantasy by local author M. Dalto, and I will also be reading two books for two library book clubs this week.

Two Thousand Years (Parliament House, 2019) by M. Dalto
The Red Address Book (Houghton Mifflin, 2019) by Sofia Lundberg
With the Fire on High (Harper Collins, 2019) by Elizabeth Acevedo (YA)

I also started listening to one of AudioFile’s SYNC 2020 free summer downloads for teens yesterday, Into White by Randi Pink, read by Adenrele Ojo and published by Listening Library.

LaToya Williams lives in Montgomery, Alabama, and attends a mostly white high school. Toya doesn’t know where she fits in, but after a run-in with another student, she wonders if life would be different if she were . . . different. And then a higher power answers her prayer: to be “anything but black.” Toya is suddenly white, blond, and popular. Now what? — From publisher’s description

Selections change on Thursdays, so you only have two more days to get this free YA audiobook download and/or this week’s other selection. Register on the AudioFile SYNC site and use SORA, the free student app from OverDrive, to download the books.

Please comment to let me know what you’re reading this week. Thank you for visiting!

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (#IMWAYR) is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It’s a place to meet up and share what you have been, are, and about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organize yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment, and er… add to that ever-growing TBR pile! This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at Book Date.

Oh! I loved Holly Gibney’s character in The Outsider & have Mr. Mercedes on my list for Big Book Summer! You should join the fun, too!

And thanks for reminding about the SYNC choices for this week – now that they have to be downloaded via the app (which I only have on my iPod as I don’t have a smart phone or tablet), I keep forgetting to do it! Will do it now before I forget again 🙂

Enjoy your books this week –

Sue
