It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? In London 1-22-24

Made it to England! Today looks like the nicest weather day, so we took the train out of London to do a proper ramble.

For Christmas, I received a book describing in great detail 52 different walks to take within a train ride of London. It even gave them in order from January to December for the best time to do each weekend walk. We chose one that was a short train ride from London, planned not to do the whole walk, so we’d be heading back to London after lunch at a pub recommended in the book.

However, we got in over 20,000 steps on our windy walk and had a delicious lunch in a traditional English pub.

But the train (commuter rail) schedule was a little confusing, and we also got a later start than planned, so we didn’t make it back to London in time for the other sightseeing we had hoped to squeeze in today.

While we got back late due to express trains that didn’t stop for us and a long delay before we got to Marylebone Station, we couldn’t get to the Sherlock Holmes Museum in time.

Luckily, Daunt Books in Marylebone, which was also on my must-visit list, stayed open till 7:30 pm.

Please see my last post, because I’m still reading the same books, with the addition of The Man with the Twisted Lip, a short Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Currently Listening To

London by Edward Rutherfurd

49 hours long, but pretty absorbing!

Recently Listened To

84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff

Loved this on audio! I think I may have read it before in print, but the audiobook narrations are all spot on.A must-listen for any audiobook-loving Anglophile. It’s only 2 hours long!

I hope to visit a bookstore on Charing Cross Road while we’re here. But we only have two days of sightseeing left before we head across the country to Blackpool!

I’d love for you to let me know what you’re reading in the comments! If you can’t see where to comment, try clicking/tapping on the title of this post to open it in full.
