It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? 03-08-21 #IMWAYR

Bookshelf with text across the top reading "Speaking of Books..."

My post today isn’t much different from last week’s! I’ve added my book club selection that I need to finish for this week, and I’m onto some new audiobooks, but otherwise, I’m still reading three of the same books I was currently reading last week.

Currently Reading

The Eulogist (William Morrow, 2019) by Terry Gamble

The Eulogist by Terry Gamble is my monthly book club selection. As it’s historical fiction about an Irish immigrant family in Ohio in the 1800s leading up to the Civil War, it was selected to fit both the Women’s History Month and St. Patrick’s Day themes for March.

From the publisher:

From the author of The Water Dancers and Good Family, an exquisitely crafted novel, set in Ohio in the decades leading to the Civil War, that illuminates the immigrant experience, the injustice of slavery, and the debts human beings owe to one another, witnessed through the endeavors of one Irish-American family.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (Macmillan, 2020) by V. E. Schwab

The Return (PFP, 2014) by Roland Merullo

The Mentor (Thomas Dunne, 2017) by Lee Matthew Goldberg

Currently Listening To

A Deadly Education (Random House Audio, 2020) by Naomi Novik

I’m absolutely loving this darkly funny, school of wizardry story! No butterbeer, kindly profs, or harmless ghosts haunting the bathrooms here. Pitch-perfect audiobook narration by Anisha Dadia!

Recently Listened To

Anxious People (S&S Audio, 2020) by Fredrik Backman

Anxious People was mentioned often on Top Ten Books That Made Me Laugh Out Loud posts a couple of weeks ago, and this audio (narrated by one of my favorites, Marin Ireland) actually did make me laugh out loud a few times. It’s only my second Fredrik Backman book (after A Man Called Ove) and it may run along familiar tracks if you’ve read a lot of his books, but, for me, it was full of surprises and a pleasure to listen to.

This post is linked to “It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?” hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. Check out the link-up party there for more book lists!
