Like many people, we’ve been spending time clearing out and organizing after the holidays. We have lots of stuff we’ve accumulated over the years that – like the recipes in my binder that I wrote about in a previous Weekend Cooking post –just needed us to dedicate time to sorting through and organizing them.
But there always seemed to be other things to do, places to go.
Until now.
My husband and I both own a lot of books. Books are just about the last thing we think about getting rid of, but after a couple of decades, there comes a time when there isn’t enough room on the bookshelves (or room to add another bookcase.) We managed to weed our collections a little bit from one set of bookcases in one room. That was where we discovered the pile of La Cucina Italiana magazines from 2010 and 2011.
We spent ten days in Rome in the fall of 2015. Flipping through the magazines and looking through the recipes and the photo spreads, we remembered all the wonderful meals we had there.
To justify our decision to keep these magazines around for another decade instead of recycling them, I tried a recipe from the February 2010 issue today – Misto Tiepido di Farro con Verdure (Warm Farro with WInter Vegetables)
Later this week, my husband will make Baccalà alla Portoghese (Portugeuse-style Salt Cod) from the November 2009 issue, which he described as “basically salt cod and potatoes” but I’m sure there’s more to it than that.
