Sunday Salon and It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? 4-6-26

Starting this post sitting in the airport in Boston on Friday night! We started off with a mixup on the departure time that we realized on Thursday night checking in for the flight, so had to scramble to change plans for when we needed to be off work and on our way to the airport. We sailed through TSA Pre-Check security and had time for a leisurely late lunch/early dinner before heading to our gate for boarding. Ten minutes before boarding was to start, the gate attendant started looking a little nervous, and then let us know that they were waiting for a captain to arrive to fly the plane. Five minutes later, he apologetically announces a four-hour delay.

As I write this paragraph, it’s looking more like a five-hour delay. A different person has announced that they’re still waiting for a pilot, but he is expected to arrive in half an hour. Boarding is supposed to start in 35 minutes, so that’s cutting it a bit close there, Southwest Airlines! The airline gave my husband (who booked the flight) a $30 voucher for an airport restaurant. $30 for two people, however, barely covers two drinks, much less two meals! DH, always an optimist, pointed out it was better than nothing. Which is true.

It struck me that airline delays have become routine. It used to be angry passengers would be swarming the customer service desk when a delay was announced. Now, everyone just shrugs and goes back to their phones.

I did put in a lot of time scrolling, but we also got over 10,000 steps walking around the airport. It’s been a while since I posted my airport bookstore sightings.

At Logan in Boston, I noticed there are now a few free book swap spots along the lines of Little Free Libraries. None noted at BWI in Maryland.

We flew to Maryland this weekend to visit our granddaughters, now three years old and nine months old and our son and DIL, of course ) for Easter. On Saturday, we slept a little later than usual, since we had let ourselves in well after midnight the night before, after finally arriving from the airport. But we rallied after morning coffee kicked in! We played with the kids at home and at the park, went out for lunch, went out for ice cream, and got lots of steps in.

Spring is farther along here in Maryland than in Massachusetts, so we saw lots of flowers on our rambles. But that meant we had to watch out for BEES!

Today will be church and Easter Sunday dinner with our DIL’s family, before we head back to the airport.

I didn’t get much reading in over the weekend, due to all the playtime, and I’m still not reading as much as usual, anyway. (Hopefully, not my new normal!)

It seems I can’t get any of my pictures to display — doing this post on an iPad — and our return flight will be boarding soon. (We hope! It has already been delayed one hour. Maybe with better wifi at home I can get them to show up in the post.)
