Audio Addictions
We got a surprising amount of snow last Monday, but no snow day at my library. Snow has been solidly frozen for most of last week, but should start to melt this week with the arrival of Daylight Savings Time and Spring!
Since last February, I’ve been focused on eating more nutritiously and exercising more to try and boost my immune system. This year of building better habits has paid off with a healthier body and a head full of great audiobooks, but resulted in much less sitting down to read (and snack) the way I used to. So my usual winter hibernation/reading time never happened in 2018/19.
Starting this February, my new goal has been to bring back my reading habit and fit it in with my other time-consuming new activities such as meal planning, meal prep, and more and more dancing events. With this in mind, I just started listening to the audiobook: Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done by Jon Acuff, who reads it himself (with bonus content, aka asides):
The gist of the first chapter is don’t allow perfectionism (the need for an unbroken streak or no slip-ups) make you give up on your goals. This is old, old advice (“Don’t let the best be the enemy of the good”, etc.) but the author’s delivery is humorous and fun, so give the audiobook a try if you’re looking for a nudge to get back on track with goals or resolutions.
So blame Jon Acuff for this slap-dash blog post…it’s not the best, but it’s done!
Last week I listened to the second Cormoran Strike book by Robert Galbraith, The Silkworm, and couldn’t stop myself from suspending my other library holds and downloading the third one, Career of Evil, which I plan to listen to alongside Finish. #hooked #definitelyhooked
Reading for book club this week:
Dear Mrs. Bird by A.J. Pearce is set in England during World War II and is about a young woman who wants to become a war correspondent and finds out her exciting new job in journalism is assisting the advice columnist at an old-fashioned, out-of-touch woman’s magazine. Off to a promising, if somewhat predictable start, and I hope the book club likes it!
What are you reading this week?????
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (#IMWAYR) is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It’s a place to meet up and share what you have been, are, and about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organize yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment, and er… add to that ever-growing TBR pile! This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at Book Date.
