I now have a print copy of Utopia Avenue by David Mitchell from the library so I don’t have to wait in for another e-book loan to come through to finish it. I was on vacation last week and didn’t want to bring library books with me, so now that I’m back to work, this will be my morning reading.
Tell Me Everything by Cambria Brockman is my current bedside table book. I’m probably just too old to be patient with this psychological suspense story about a circle of college friends, but so far, the information-withholding narrator of the story is more annoying than intriguing.

This graphic memoir written and illustrated by Mira Jacob is very timely for 2020, especially in the run-up to the U.S. presidential election, but I can also see Good Talk being on high school and college reading lists for many years to come, and the kind of book you would pull off the shelf to reread every so often.

I saw the recommendation for the audiobook of Smacked by Eilene Zimmerman on the Sarah’s Bookshelves blog. The author was also the narrator of the audiobook, which was a good choice in this case, as the much of the story was very personal. Over all, this book didn’t work that well for me, as so much of it was how the author didn’t recognize any of the signs that her husband had become addicted to drugs, and how all the inexplicable behaviors didn’t make sense, while readers already know the tragic ending of the story right from the beginning.
But I have tried reading memoirs of addiction before and not liked them, so if you like books like Smashed by Koren Zailckas, etc., this might be a better fit for you.

I just started listening to Save Me the Plums: My Gourmet Memoir by Ruth Reichl. I was afraid I had already listened to it back when I listened to some of her earlier memoirs, but I haven’t. This one is about working as the editor in chief of Gourmet magazine.
