Another busy weekend traveling and no reading — but the family time was so worth the time on the road, even in holiday-weekend traffic! A visit with our NYC daughter on Friday night, and Saturday and Sunday with The Baby in Maryland!

Visions of Johanna by Peter Sarno
Peter Sarno taught literature and memoir courses at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and has published essays, reviews, and short stories. While a graduate student at UMass, he won the Donald E Cookson prize in nonfiction. His work has appeared in The Boston Globe, Music World magazine, Sweet Potato, Gannet newspapers, Gatehouse Media, and other outlets. Visions of Johanna is his first published novel.
If you caught the reference to Bob Dylan in the title, you might be a better reader for Visions of Johanna by Peter Sarno than me. I won a copy of this novel through Roland Merullo’s newsletter; the two authors are old friends.
I’m almost finished with Visions of Johanna and was drawn into the story set in Boston and New York in the late ’60s/ early ’70s — full of references to the music and art scene in those days.

I bought a copy of Is It Hot in Here? by Zach Zimmerman on a whim after reading about it in a Chronicle Books email. It would be easy to whip through it, but I’ve been saving some of it to read during Pride Month.
