French Braid by Anne Tyler

Everyone knows Anne Tyler, and knows French Braid is her latest novel. I bought this in hardcover for myself while on a summer book-buying spree (I had a gift card, but, shhh…I went over the amount.) when I was supposed to be buying books that are on my Big Book Summer challenge list, and for my upcoming trip (to Ireland!)

The Big Book Summer books have to be 400+ pages to count as “big books.” I bought Gabrielle Zevin’s new book – Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow – and NOT just because of the Oxford comma in the title, which is 401 pages, not counting the appendix, so I might swap it in. (Sue’s rules for the Big Book Summer challenge are very loosey-goosey, so it wouldn’t be cheating.)

Mercy (Black Rose, July 28, 2022) by Bill Littlefield

I received a LibraryThing Early Reviewer giveaway copy of Mercy by Bill Littlefield. Review coming soon! Just finished it over the weekend.

Joan Is Okay by Weike Wang

I picked this audiobook out on the recommendation of Melissa Firman. A different kind of dysfunctional immigrant family story that carries readers through the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and an excellent audio narration by Catherine Ho.

[…] Like Belgravia, Counterfeit is an AudioFile Earphones Award winner. Catherine Ho also read Joan Is Okay by Weike Wang, which I liked a lot last year. […]
