Someday, Maybe by Onyi Nwabineli

Someday, Maybe (Graydon, 2022) by Onyi Nwabineli

“If you are someone who gravitates toward emotional gut punch reads, allow me to introduce you to this spectacular debut…”— BuzzFeed

Someday, Maybe by Onyi Nwabineli was released last month, and I’ve been so out of it that I didn’t realize it was the Good Morning America Book Club selection for November. This usually bumps up the library wait list for a book astronomically (I only just got around to listening to Lessons in Chemistry, which was the April selection, because of the long wait list.) so I was lucky I had an advance reading copy of Someday, Maybe from NetGalley.

A tragic death of a young husband by suicide is at the heart of Someday, Maybe, so it’s not always an easy read. BuzzFeed describes the book as an “emotional gut-punch” and that seems about right. The book is narrated by the newly widowed Eve Ezenwa-Morrow. But it’s really a book about the emotional rollercoaster of surviving such a loss and what loving family and friends can and can’t do to help their grieving loved one. Highly recommended!

Nigerian-born British author Onyi Nwabineli grew up in Glasgow and lives in London. Someday, Maybe is her first novel.

The Third Rail by Bill Fleming and Joe Peters

The Third Rail (Lulu, 2022) by Bill Fleming and Joe Peters

Just finished The Third Rail!

Local author Bill Fleming’s third book about MBTA cop Morris Fitzgerald was my lunch hour reading in November. I enjoy these novels not so much for the mysteries that get solved but for all the lore about the long-running Boston subway system and its quirky, long-suffering riders. Morris is nearing retirement age, but the T is still going — not strong, maybe, but going.

Lucy by the Sea (Penguin Audio, 2022) by Elizabeth Strout, read by Kimberly Farr

I’ve been listening to Lucy by the Sea by Elizabeth Strout for just a few days, and am almost to the end already. 🙁

I love, love, love it! But of course. It’s by one of my very favorite authors. A favorite of 2022, for sure!

Ooh that last one DEFINITELY looks intriguing! And thank you for your comment. I’ve seen Substack around but don’t know a lot about it. I agree though, I still like blogging. 🙂

I’ve never heard of Someday Maybe, but I also don’t follow a lot of the celebrity book clubs. This one looks good–I may check it out!

Wow, these books all sound good, and I haven’t heard of any of them yet, so thanks for the heads up! I enjoyed Olive Kitteridge but haven’t yet read any of her other novels – crazy, right? I’ve heard such good things – I have some catching up to do. I’m late with blog visits this week, but I hope you’ve been enjoying your books –
