Flew in and out of the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport for a big line dance event this weekend, so I’m starting this as we wait near our gate for our flight home. This is a huge airport, compared to Logan Airport in Boston.
Like many who are reading this post, I pack more books than I will ever get through for any trip, but I still like to stop and check out the racks of books for sale at the airports as we pass by the stores. (Remember when airports all had at least one dedicated bookstore?)
Books for entertainment and pleasure reading definitely predominate.
Some travelers must use their travel time for self-improvement, instead of spending it fuming over flight delays and worrying about germs, like I do. (Not to mention eating and drinking in overpriced airport restaurants.)
Or for spiritual thoughts
Since starting this post, our 4:00 pm flight to Boston was delayed to 4:25, then 4:45, then 5:00. Then, just before 4:30, with the plane at the gate, but no sign of boarding in sight, our flight was delayed to 7:30 pm.

good luck getting home! I hate delayed planes. But I’m totally awed by your idea of photo-documenting the airport bookshop! I’ve encountered some pretty good ones on recent trips. However, I only read kindle books when traveling these days. Lightens the luggage so perfectly!

Yes! I love to check out the book sections in the airport shops. The El Paso, Texas airport has a great selection of faith-based books for great prices! Ohhh, those book covers! I hope your trips went better after all those delays!
It’s been a long time since I’ve been an airport — thanks for sharing the current offerings. I definitely preferred engaging fiction when I traveled to distract from all the various things that could go wrong and sometimes did.
Dallas is a huge airport, but I found it to be very efficient when I was there in March. I always look at books in the airport even though I have brought plenty with me for a trip. I hope you got home at a decent time!
I’ve connected in DFW frequently in the last year, and every flight has been delayed, some for more than four hours. I’m starting to try to avoid that airport.
The best thing about the wait in airports is visiting the book sections of all stores while I’m there. I always try to buy something at the little airport bookstores. I feel like I have to support the important things…I can always bring good food from home. I would say that it is in airports that I see more people reading than anywhere else.
I hope you finally were able to leave Dallas-Ft. Worth.
I do remember the dedicated book stores but that was a long time ago. Cool photos of the racks of books, something for everyone.
Traveling with my kindle has made my bag much lighter, but I always manage to come home with new books! Thanks for the tour of the airport bookshop… hope you made it home safely.
Line dance event in Texas? You have hidden talents! That sounds like a lot of fun. And, yeah, airports and air travel are never fun. At least you had a non-stop flight (once it finally took off). We had to go to San Antonio in January, and it took two flights each way to/from Philly. I do love checking out the airport bookstores! One of those books in your photo, We Love to Entertain, is a Booktopia pick 🙂
Hope you got home safe and sound (and not TOO exhausted) and are resting today. And did you post all this from your phone? Not sure I could do that – I’m impressed!

I used the iPad WordPress app but it was a pain in the neck!
Delays are awful, and your’s was a long one! When I flew last the airport had a small section of books in one of the stores. I didn’t buy any since I had a Kindle full of them.
I hope the trip was fun! I always stop in the airport bookstores. There’s nothing else to do in an airport!
we haven’t flown since covid and I really don’t want to! Everyone has luggage and delay problems. Erk.
