Top Ten Books I Loved But Never Reviewed

For today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic combined with my poor record for reviewing books I loved, I could probably easily make a list of 40, 50, or more books “I loved and never reviewed” over my eleven years of off-and-on book blogging.

A book or audiobook I love deserves a lovingly crafted, detailed review. Which I never get around to writing. So, many (maybe most) of the books I absolutely loved end up going unreviewed by me. (Luckily, these books did just fine on their own, so not getting rave reviews written by me didn’t matter!)

1. Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovitch (audio)

Midnight Riot and the rest of the Rivers of London series

2. Life after Life and God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson (audio)

3. Halsey Street by Naima Coster

4. Standard Deviation by Katherine Heiny

5. An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard

6. Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney (Audio)

7. The Widower’s Notebook by Jonathan Santlofer

8. Property by Lionel Shriver

Property: Stories Between Two Novellas by Lionel Shriver

9. A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

10. The Female Persuasion by Meg Wolitzer

Have you read and loved/hated any of these?

Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk sounds like such a good read.

I feel the same way – every book deserves a thoughtful review. That’s why I review everything I read. I’m a little OCD about it actually!

Happy TTT!

I liked Midnight Riot and A Gentleman in Moscow but didn’t review either. The latter was for a book club. I have a troubled relationship with Kate Atkinson so though I’ve read most of her books I never feel like writing about them. It’s too hard to express my feelings and I don’t want to get into arguments with people who love them.

I have An Unkindness of Magicians on my TBR pile–I should bump it up. Thanks for visiting my list.

You read so widely. I guess that is part of being a librarian. When I first started blogging, I reviewed every book, but gradually I could not keep up that pace. Even now that I am retired, I would have to read less to have time to write reviews for all books I read, and I am not willing to do that. So I compromise.

I have read three of the Rivers of London series. I read Life After LIfe by Kate Atkinson and loved it but haven’t gotten to A God in Ruins. I read Transcription (sort of spy fiction) but that one I did not review. I guess she counts as a favorite author since I have read all the Jackson Brody books except the newest one. I did read A Gentleman in Moscow this year and want to review it, but haven’t yet.

Great list! An Unkindness of Magicians is on my TBR, and I’ve heard so many good things about Life After Life.

Just from the cover art, I’m interested in a lot of these. (I’m a sucker for a good book cover.)

This reminds me that I still need to read those Kate Atkinson novels. They’ve been sitting on my shelf for a while now.
