It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? 11-14-22

Someday, Maybe by Onyi Nwabineli

Someday, Maybe (Graydon, 2022) by Onyi Nwabineli

“If you are someone who gravitates toward emotional gut punch reads, allow me to introduce you to this spectacular debut…”— BuzzFeed

(I never thought of myself as “someone who gravitates toward emotional gut punch reads,” but now that BuzzFeed has put it that way…Maybe I am.)

I received Someday, Maybe by Onyi Nwabineli from NetGalley but didn’t get to start it before it was released on the first of this month. It starts out with a young woman grieving the death of her husband with her Nigerian family hovering, unable to break through her wall of misery.

Nigerian-born British author Onyi Nwabineli grew up in Glasgow and lives in London. Someday, Maybe is her first novel.

Old Country by Matt Query and Harrison Query

Old Country (Grand Central, 2022) by Matt Query and Harrison Query

Based on the Reddit sensation, a horror thriller of a young couple who buys the perfect, secluded house—only to discover the terror within. – from the Publisher

The Atlas Six from last month was a TikTok sensation and this month I’m reading a Reddit sensation. I don’t go on either, so clearly the viral buzz on both books must have gone mainstream by the time I heard about them!

The Third Rail by Bill Fleming and Joe Peters

The Third Rail (Lulu, 2022) by Bill Fleming and Joe Peters

I think this is the third week for The Third Rail!

Local author Bill Fleming’s third book about MBTA cop Morris Fitzgerald has been my lunch hour reading, but my lunch hours haven’t been lasting an hour lately and I try to take a walk, too, so I may need to revise this plan.

Currently Listening To

In a New York Minute by Kate Spencer

In a New York Minute (Hachette Audio, 2022) by Kate Spencer, read by Amanda Dolan and Neil Hellegers

Read the AudioFile review here.

I have less than a day to finish listening to In a New York Minute by Kate Spencer before the audiobook loan expires. (This is becoming a pattern.) I chose a romance to balance out my darker reading this month.

I’m sure In a New York Minute was recommended by at least one book blogger that I follow, but now I can’t remember who! The book has a lot of New York flavor and the audiobook narration is really good, but when I need my next snarky friends-to-enemies romance fix, I may go back to Jasmine Guillory and Christina Lauren.

Good to balance out our reading with light and dark. Important I believe. Someday Maybe appeals to me.
